Lantra Training Instructor

Lantra Training Skills for Instructors course

The Lantra Awards Training Skills for Instructors course is an instructional techniques course approved by Lantra to lead on to become a registered Lantra Awards Instructor.

About Lantra: Lantra Awards are the Sector Skills Council for the Land Based industries and offer an extensive portfolio of industry-leading high quality courses and qualifications ensuring safe working practices and have over 80,000 people a year booking Lantra courses.

The Lantra Awards 'Training Skills for Instructors' course is ideal for those who are passionate about their own chosen field of expertise for the industry they work in and who would like to instruct practical skills both indoors and in the outdoor environment. The course is also approved by Lantra Awards to progress on to become a registered Instructor for Lantra Awards delivering Lantra Awards courses nationally (see below Lantra Skills Group of courses and how to become a Lantra Instructor). Once approved by Lantra, the Instructor can then use their skills and expertise to inspire a new generation of learners, or offer up-skill training and qualifications or refresher training to those already working in the industry.

The Training Skills for Instructors course consists of five days training with integrated assessment by the Instructor culminating in a practical teaching session with feedback.

Day 1 - Introduction, Aims, Objectives and the Theory of Learning

Day 2 - Communication Skills and using different techniques and visual aids to assist in the instruction of various skills

Day 3 - Lesson Planning and Preparation and a Micro-teach

Day 4 - Assessment Skills and Preparation for Skills instructional Session to be delivered by the candidate on the last day

Day 5 - Delivery of Skills Instructional session and review with feedback.

The course is based on the training cycle, covering three main areas:

1.    Planning (including session planning and organising a training event)

2.    Delivery (participants will deliver a 10 minute 'session' that they have planned)

3.    Evaluation (self, peer group and course evaluation).

The course takes place at our training facilities; The Coach House a newly refurbished Georgian building on the Danby Hall Estate, which is a private country Estate near Leyburn, North Yorkshire. Unlike other instructional techniques courses which are mainly centred around learning how to teach in a corporate classroom environment, the Training Skills for Instructors course takes place in a classroom/workshop. Here you will learn about the techniques of how to teach and where you can prepare a short skills instructional session (on a subject of your own choice), such as a flip chart presentation in the classroom, or a skills instructional session in the workshop, or even a teaching session outdoors. For example; Chainsaw Maintenance, Animal Care, First Aid, Tree Climbing, Bush Craft, Machinery Maintenance, or other skills and crafts.

On successful completion of the course the candidates will receive a Lantra Awards 'Training Skills for Instructors' accredited Training Certificate and photo Skills Identity card. These candidates will then be recognised by Lantra as an independent Instructor whereby you will be able to provide training either as a Freelance Instructor, work for an organisation as an In-House Instructor, or work as a Corporate Instructor running your own training courses.
