Pesticides are very widely and successfully used in land-based industries, but they can be potentially harmful substances, therefore it is essential that they are handled, applied and stored correctly.  This therefore makes training essential and our Safe Use of Pesticides PA1 attendance course will guide you through the key elements of using pesticides safely, and with confidence.  


Who is it for?


Our one day training course is for you if you are employed within the Agriculture or Horticulture industries, and if you are responsible for the storage, handling and application of pesticides. This course will help you develop your knowledge of health and safety and legislation enabling you to work safely and effectively out in the field.
If you are registered with the NRoSO and/or BASIS (NRoSO = 12 points, BASIS = 12 points).
Due to the use of pesticides, it is important that you are able to read and interpret product information in order to participate in this course.


What will you get from it?

The PA1 test involves a multi choice online test City & Guilds (E-Volve) test which candidates complete after their PA1 course. The test involves the candidates using the computer mouse to click on one of four answers to the questions shown on the computer screen. 


PA1 Course:

PA6 Course

Duration: 1 Day

•Legislation And Safety Regulations To Spraying

•Inspect Applicator

•Demonstrate knowledge of Applicator nozzles

•Read And Interpret Product Information

•Calibrate a Hand Held Pedestrian Applicator

•Procedures for Measuring, Mixing and filling applicator with Pesticides and Water

•Environmental Factors Relating to the Application of the Pesticide

•Operate the Application Equipment to apply the Pesticide

•Techniques for Overall Treatment

•Techniques for Spot Treatment

•How To Carry Out Post-Operational Procedures (Cleaning and Storage)

•Application record


The PA6 assessment/test involves the candidate demonstrating to the Assessor that they can safely use pesticides in accordance to what they have learnt on both the PA1 and PA6 course.


PA6 Course: 

Duration: 1 Day plus 1 day assessment



























Phostoxin/Talunex course (for the management of vertebrate pests e.g. rats, moles and rabbits)

City & Guilds NPTC qualification

Duration: 1 Day + 1 day assessment 

On successful completion of these courses the candidates will receive a City & Guilds NPTC certificate and skills ID card which are nationally recognised, respected by employers and the Health & Safety Executive etc.
